When Prince Harry was still single, he had been the constant third wheel of Prince William and Kate Middleton. But since the three royals were extremely close, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge always enjoyed having the younger prince around during formal and informal events.
Every royal fan knows that Prince William and Prince Harry had a tight bond since they were young boys. So when Kate Middleton came into the picture, many thought that the royal brothers would be less close. Fortunately, that didn’t happen.
Kate Middleton seamlessly joined the bond, and they quickly became “The Royal Trio.” Now, the close relationship of the in-laws is proven even more when a 2017 interview unearthed.
“There was no filling the hole left by Diana’s death, and Harry seemed to be growing up without someone emotionally available he could lean on,” reporter Angela Levin explained. “Kate has helped fill some of that gap. When she and William got engaged, Harry called her the big sister he never had. He often pops into their apartment at Kensington Palace, where she cooks him a meal—roast chicken is reportedly a particular favorite.”
Prince Harry also hinted in 2018 how much he respects his sister-in-law by asking for her approval before marrying Meghan Markle. He wanted Kate Middleton to meet the former actress, so she would know her before they tie the knot.
“When Harry realized his romance with the American actress was serious, he was keen for Kate to meet Meghan,” Katie Nicholl revealed in Grazia. “That very first meeting was a great success, and, when Meghan came to visit Harry in January, she reportedly bought a dreams journal as a gift for Kate, who was about to celebrate her 35th birthday.”
Meanwhile, when Prince Harry got engaged to Meghan Markle in 2017, the fun bickering between the brothers continued. Prince William and the Duke of Sussex had always been very relatable when it comes to their brotherly love for each other.
Since Prince Harry always pops over Prince William and Kate Middleton’s home, the Duke of Cambridge joked that the engagement of his brother might finally stop him from stealing their food. “I hope [the engagement] means he stays out of my fridge, it will stop him scrounging off all my food, as he’s done over the last few years,” the future kind said.
