Prince George and Princess Charlotte grabbed the headlines when they joined Queen Elizabeth II and the other members of the royal family in the annual Christmas Day walk. Though the netizens did not get a glimpse of the usual cheeky charm of the siblings, they were happy to see the two instead of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Prince William and Kate Middleton's two eldest kids joined the Christmas walk for the first time. George walked along with his father, while Kate held the hand of Charlotte.
Royal fans shared their thoughts about the first Christmas walk of the sibling. Many believed that George and Charlotte were able to divert the public's attention from the recent Prince Andrew scandal that rocked the royal family.
Others commented that they did not feel the absence of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on the occasion. One said they are happy to see the siblings instead of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex who have reportedly spent Christmas in Canada with Meghan's mother.
"Who needs Meghan and Harry when we have Charlotte and George. We're happy with the trade. Thank you," one Twitter user said.
In the past interview, Harry admitted that he wants people to pay attention to what he does before his Prince William's children took over the spotlight. In her 2018 biography, titled Harry: Conservations With The Prince, author Angela Levin wrote Harry wants to make a mark as early as he can.
Meanwhile, Prince George may have broken a royal protocol because of the outfit he wore during the church service. Prince George was seen in a navy blue ensemble of a shirt, jumper, jacket, and trousers.
According to Express, royal protocol dictates that young male royals are required to wear shorts up to the age of seven or eight. Prince George is only six.
Many speculate that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge could have decided to dress the young prince in his trousers because it was a cold day, not to mention he will attend a church service. This is not the first time the third to the line of succession wore trousers in church. He was also seen in trousers when he served as a page boy at the wedding of his uncle, Prince Harry, to Meghan Markle in 2018.
George and Charlotte also mingled with well-wishers outside St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham. Some gave flowers and gifts to Prince George and Princess Charlotte including a bright pink inflatable flamingo from a well-wisher in a wheelchair who also hugged both children.
