Prince William and Kate Middleton are apparently the people behind the smear campaign against Prince Harry's wife, Meghan Markle. This is the allegation of royal fan who claimed that this would explain why the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have never defended their sister-in-law in the media.
In a post on Twitter, royal fans debated over Prince William and Kate's actions when Meghan admitted that she's struggling with the intense media scrutiny of their lives as royals. Not once did the Cambridges speak of their support for the Sussexes in public, thus a fan of Meghan alluded it's because Prince William and Kate are behind the smear campaign against her. Another fan of the Sussexes also said that Prince William and Kate are complicit to the bullying and peddling of fake news about Meghan Markle in the media.
In contrast, Prince Harry has spoken publicly to show his support for Kate when she, too, struggled with the negative press. In the early days of Kate's marriage to Prince William, while she was pregnant with Prince George, Prince Harry told the media to leave his brother and sister-in-law alone so that they can enjoy this major milestone in peace.
However, back in November 2016 when Prince Harry and Meghan were just dating and getting to know each other, Prince William issued a statement in support of his brother and girlfriend. According to The Telegraph, the Duke of Cambridge approved of how Prince Harry asked the media to respect their privacy. At that time, the hounding of the press against Meghan was just starting to get off the ground after rumors buzzed that the royal was dating an American TV star.
Since then, however, the Duke of Cambridge and his wife largely kept themselves separate from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Following Prince Harry and Meghan's wedding in May 2018, the brothers' separation became even more apparent.
Thus, rumors of a rift between Prince Harry and William came about in the media. Royal experts said that this division between Princess Diana's beloved sons could continue in 2020.
