Every ARMY now knows that Jimin is a triple threat. The BTS star can dance, sing, and act — which are the main criteria of being a K-pop idol.

However, Jimin was mainly a dancer when he joined Big Hit Entertainment. So when he was revealed to the world on January 12, 2013, he was introduced as simply as that — a dancer.

“The new member is on the blog, haha. It’s a dancer this time,” BTS’ official Twitter account tweeted at the time. A video of the young Jimin dancing was also shared to BANGTANTV’s YouTube channel.

Despite his contemporary dance background, which he is famously known for, Jimin showed his versatility by doing a modern dance for his reveal video. Since it was a dance practice clip, nobody knew how he sounded like at the time. And since he was introduced as a dancer and not a singer, many probably had low expectations for him in the singing department.

The truth is that Jimin was not a singer at all when he became a BTS member, so he learned it from scratch. Their pre-debut vlogs revealed that he spent countless hours doing voice lessons. Since he believed that he needed to exert more effort than the rest of the members, Jimin became obsessed with perfecting his singing skills.

On Jan. 24, 2013, Jimin posted his very first tweet using BTS’ Twitter account. “Hello~ This is Jimin. I was finally revealed on Twitter~! I’m 19 years old now and I love to dance! Please welcome me!” he wrote.

Fast forward to 2020 and Jimin is now one of the most sought-after singers in the entertainment world. The 24-year-old singer, songwriter, and dancer is a part of BTS’ “Vocal Line” and has been chosen multiple times by artists as someone they want to collaborate with.

One of those artists is Ailee. The 30-year-old Korean-American singer and songwriter is considered to be one of the most powerful singers in K-Pop, so her acknowledging Jimin’s vocals proved that the BTS star's hard work and perseverance have finally paid off.

“There’s just like something in his voice, the way he sings, that just seduces you,” Ailee said in an interview with Eric Nam. “I’m not saying I’m attracted to him like that, but his voice is so captivating. And the way he sings is just mind-blowing. The way he does all his vocals and falsettos sometimes is just like, ‘Who is this guy!’”
