Meghan Markle might be away in Canada as Prince Harry arranges in London for them to step back from their royal roles. The Duchess of Sussex, however, still pursued a visit to a charity even while its staff weren't expecting a royal.

Kate Gibson, the director of Downtown Eastside Women's Centre, told Daily Telegraph that she received an email from the Sussex royal's staff about potentially visiting the shelter. The initial arrangements were discussed confidentially, and after a few calls between Gibson and the duchess aide, they've arranged for Meghan to visit on Tuesday, Jan. 14.

Meghan made a good impression on the shelter director and the rest of the women working there. According to their accounts, the Duchess of Sussex stayed for more than one hour and had actual conversations with the women.

Gibson said that the Duchess of Sussex 'didn't have her crown on' to suggest that Meghan is down to earth. She approached the staff like an average person and took a genuine interest in what they do as a charity.

The director also said that Meghan looks like the kind of person who dresses and does things for herself. She described the duchess as a lovely woman who didn't pretend to be a sweet person to get a pat on the back.

After her visit to the Downtown Eastside Women's Centre, the Duchess of Sussex also went to Justice for Girls. While there, Meghan had conversations about climate change, as well as the rights of Indigenous people, with the shelter workers.

Prince Harry's wife left the U.K. for Canada on Jan. 8 after a few days of stay in London. On that same day, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced that they would like to step back as senior royals.

Since telling the world that they would like to change their roles from senior royals to less prominent members of The Firm, Prince Harry and Meghan have been inundated with both criticisms and praises. However, Queen Elizabeth released a statement to say that she is allowing her the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to step back and divide their time between Canada and the U.K.

It is believed that while they're staying in North America, Prince Harry and Meghan will continue to work with different charities and perhaps open up more avenues for their Sussex Royal Foundation. The couple also said that they would like to become financially independent from The Crown.
