Meghan Markle was divorcee when she met Prince Harry in 2016. Three years before dating the Duke of Sussex, the former actress ended her marriage to ex-husband Trevor Engelson. Their barely three-year marriage ended because Meghan and her ex lived apart.

Before she became the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan was living and working in Canada in the TV series Suits. Her then-husband, on the other hand, was based in the United States. According to Daily Express, this long-distance relationship strained her marriage to Engelson but she couldn't give up her job as her work on Suits made her a "legitimate bonafide celebrity."

Royal correspondent Ashley Pierson said that Meghan relocated to Canada merely months into her first marriage. Her rise to stardom was happening while she was far away from home from her mother and friends.

Royal biographer Andrew Morton wrote in the book "Meghan: A Hollywood Princess" that the former actress ended her relationship with Engelson "out of the blue." She mailed her wedding and engagement ring back to him.

The report stated that Meghan does not want to make the same mistake in her marriage to Prince Harry. So, she quit her job in Suits and joined the Duke of Sussex in the U.K.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, now, plan to live in Canada for half of the year, and in London for the remaining half. Thus, they announced that they will be stepping down as senior royals. They also proclaimed their desire to be financially independent and not a receive a penny from the Sovereign Grant.

While arrangements are being ironed out for Prince Harry and Meghan's relocation in Canada, an editorial in The Globe and Mail, Canada's biggest newspaper, stated that their plan could be a "constitutional taboo." The paper argued that a royal living in Canada will break the "long-standing nature of the relationship between Canada and Britain, and Canada and the Crown." The editorial advised Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to turn down this arrangement.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry is still in London to complete his royal events. He is expected to fly to Canada to join his wife and son soon. Meghan, on the other hand, was seen at the Downtown Eastside Women's Centre in Vancouver. Reports said that it was a surprise visit, where she discussed women's issues with the community. The duchess flew to Canada last week, after announcing that the Sussexes are stepping back in their royal roles.
