Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, was once married to Trevor Engelson, who worked as a talent agent and film producer. During their time together, reports revealed that Meghan's ex-husband once belittled himself.
According to Daily Express, Engelson originally wanted to go into directing movies but he shot down his own abilities. In the book "Meghan: A Hollywood Princess," Engelson apparently realized he did not have a talent for directing.
Thus, his career trajectory in Hollywood shifted from his original goal. He worked at a talent agency and then got into producing a movie in 2010 with Robert Pattinson in the lead.
Engleson met Meghan in 2004, when they were both trying to make it in the business. He was, however, already a burgeoning Hollywood producer at that time as he established Underground, his production company.
After dating for several years, the two tied the knot in Jamaica in 2011. Yet, 18 months after they became husband and wife, Meghan divorced her first husband. Citing irreconcilable differences, the courts granted the former couple a no-fault divorce in 2013.
Friends say that the physical distance between Meghan and her first husband was a factor in their marriage. She was working on the set of Suits in Canada as a newlywed while Engelson stayed on in Los Angeles.
Today, Meghan and Engelson's lives are miles different from their former time together. She, obviously, became a royal after marrying Prince Harry in 2018 and they now have a son, born a year after they married. Engelson, on the other hand, is newly-married to the heiress Tracey Kurland.
Engelson has been distancing himself from any news about Meghan since reports came out that she was dating a royal. According to Daily Mail, the producer declined to say anything when he was followed by the press in Beverly Hills after word got out that Prince Harry and Meghan were stepping back from their royal duties.
However, in 2017 at the height of Prince Harry and Meghan's dating phase, reports came out that Engleson was set to produce TV show about an ex-couple, where the woman was to marry a British prince. The fictional series was set as a comedy with the ex-husband trying to gain custody of his child.
According to Independent, the idea was inspired by real events but Meghan did not have any hand in the show's development. She and her first husband also does not share any kids together. However, the comedy series did not progress past the development stage.
