Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced earlier this month that they will be stepping down from their royal duties to focus on their son and charities. They also shared their wish to be “financially independent.”
But the Duke and Duchess of Sussex still receive funds from Prince Charles. However, the future King’s handouts could not cover the cost of the couple’s multi-million mansion in Canada.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are currently living on a private mansion on Vancouver Island, Canada, which is worth $18 million Canadian (approx. US$ 13,633,200.00). Although the pair didn’t reveal the name of the owner of their Canadian home, the Daily Mail reported that “Meghan and Harry were introduced to the mystery owner by David Foster, a friend of the owner. Foster's wife Katherine McPhee was a school friend of the Duchess of Sussex.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could only live in Canada as visitors at the moment. So, there’s no need for a special visa to say in the country. However, this will only allow them to stay there for six months at a time.
But Dory Jade, head of the Canadian Association of Professional Immigration Consultants, pointed out that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wealth may play a significant role.
“If the couple is willing to invest some of its fortune, estimated in the tens of millions of dollars, in Canada, they could probably qualify for one of the business/investor class visas,” she said.
As for their home in Frogmore Cottage, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle pledged to repay the £2.4million that was spent during the refurbishing, using funds from the Queen via the Sovereign Grant. But the Buckingham Palace revealed in a statement that it will “remain their UK family home.”
Previous reports revealed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be creating their own TV firm. Rumor has it that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be providing voiceovers and producing documentaries on “worthy causes,” and this is where they will be earning their money.
“The sorts of deals they will do will be more along the lines of the documentary series the Duke is executive producing on mental health for Apple TV,” a source told the MailOnline. “It’s a new model, admittedly, but they are determined to prove to the family that this can work.”
