Prince Charles, recently, appointed pop superstar Katy Perry as the new ambassador for the British Asian Trust. The Prince of Wales named the award-winning singer during a black-tie dinner in London last Tuesday, Feb. 4.
The royal said that Perry will be working alongside him to fight child labor in India. But, Prince Charles also made a bizarre request from the hitmaker, which she gamely obliged.
The Prince of Wales joked that Perry must also sing to the plants in his farm. Perry heeded to the royal's command and said, "You have my word, sir."
Prince Charles first met Perry during his visit to India last November. As a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, Perry is aware of child labor problems in the country. She promised the Prince of Wales that she will support him in his cause.
During the dinner in London, Perry graciously accepted her new role. She said that she agreed to be an ambassador for the British Asian Trust because she was impressed with Prince Charles and the Mumbai leaders working to cut child trafficking in the region.
Perry also said that Prince Charles has an incredible soul. She's also aware that the royal talks to his plants. In response, Prince Charles said that he had the pleasure of meeting Perry in Mumbai. He described it as a wonderful birthday present because she agreed to take on such a very important role.
To date, the British Asian Trust has helped over 4.8 million in need in India, as well as in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The foundation has recently expanded to help children in Bangladesh. Prince Charles founded the British Asian Trust in 2007 along with some leaders and visionaries of British and South Asian descent.
Meanwhile, prior to the dinner, Prince Charles dropped by TK Maxx in the south of London to visit some of the employees who are beneficiaries of the Prince's Trust. According to Town & Country, the heir to the throne was mobbed by shoppers waiting outside. However, the store was closed for the royal visit and the royal expressed worry that he turned away TX Maxx's customers.
Inside the store, Prince Charles talked with the staff members who were formerly unemployed. They thanked him for his charity programs and discussed problems faced by young Londoners today, especially when it comes to the job market.
Those who were present during the meeting said that Prince Charles was open to the discussion and listened intently to what they said. The Prince's Trust, which was founded in 1976, has helped nearly a million young adults. Its partnership with TK Maxx has been ongoing since 2013.
