CSI revival is reportedly in the works at CBS, according to some recent reports. The crime drama series ran for 15 seasons; debuted in October 2000 and ended in September 2015. Now, multiple reports claim a possible revival is coming and will bring some of the familiar faces in the series.
Deadline first reported that CBS is mulling a CSI revival to mark the series' 20th anniversary. Reportedly, Elementary executive producer Jason Tracey, CBS TV Studios, and Jerry Bruckheimer TV are in charge of an event series at the network. In addition, series creator Anthony Zuiker is said to be involved as well.
The report also said series stars William Petersen and Jorja Fox might be returning in CSI revival, though nothing is confirmed as of yet. Meanwhile, one of the possible reasons why CBS is eyeing for a revival is because the series is one of the most successful television franchise in the network.
Over the past years, CSI generated high ratings at CBS and became a powerful Thursday lineup for the network. The series also had three spin-offs: Miami, New York, and Cyber. But, if ever, CSI revival will, reportedly, focus more on the flagship show rather than the spin-offs.
CSI follows the Las Vegas Police Department's crime-scene investigators, wherein they work together and use physical evidence to solve crimes. Deadline noted the revival would be a series and it will also be set in Las Vegas, which serves as a sequel rather than a spin-off.
According to some sources, however, no deals are done for the potential CSI revival. The project is, currently, in its early stages and there's a possibility it may not come together within a reasonable financial framework. Representatives for both CBS and CBS TV Studios declined to comment.
CSI starred William Petersen, Gary Dourdan, Marg Helgenberger, George Eads, Jorja Fox, Robert David Hall, Paul Guilfoyle, Eric Szmanda, Louise Lombard, Wallace Langham, Lauren Lee Smith, Ted Danson, Elisabeth Shue, and Jon Wellner.
Created by Anthony Zuiker, CSI has been one of the most important series on CBS over the past two decades. Also, the show became one of the most-watched series on television and the 2015 series finale generated solid ratings for the network.
Perhaps, that's one of the main reasons why CBS is planning for a revival right now. Reviving a series might also be a smart move, mostly because the show already has loyal viewers. But then, it's still worth noting that nothing is official at the moment.
