Did you know that aside from eating and drinking healthy and keeping an active lifestyle, sleeping is also one of the simplest but most effective things to do to keep oneself healthy? Just by having a good night's sleep, your body doesn't just receive the rest it needs but it also heals your tired and weak physique.

During your sleep, your body's immune system is strengthened, which enables it to restore damaged and sore muscles effectively by producing more white blood cells that can help fix your body's problem. These cells attack the bacteria, viruses, and other harmful substances that could possibly become a hindrance, making your healing process faster, as reported by Chicago Tribune.

Given this reason, it is indeed a must for everyone to have the best sleep one can get for our body to function perfectly. But did you know there are a lot of myths about sleep that most people believe as if it is true? Dr. Rebecca Robbins, Ph.D., a researcher at the Brigham and Women's Hospital, and Dr. David Rapoport, a professor in medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, posted a video with Science Insider on Facebook debunking the truths behind these myths.

ADULTS CAN SURVIVE WITH FIVE HOURS OF SLEEP OR LESS

Robbins confirms that no matter how busy we are in our lives, having five hours or less of sleep will never be enough. This is what her team found out after several epidemiological data were studied revealing how the majority of adults are less productive during the day with only a few hours of sleep. This only goes to show how much people will never be able to function well or survive without having his body's recommended daily sleep.

YOUR BODY AND BRAIN CAN ADAPT TO LESS SLEEP

"There are actual formal studies that have tested how people perform with lack of sleep and how they think they are performing", Rapoport claims. The results of the research reveal how most people are only "lousy at saying how sleepy we are". This gets to show how most people are aware of their tiredness but unfortunately don't have any idea how worse it gets and how it can affect their performance in their daily lives.

The research further shows that no matter how much one person trains his body to fit in his busy schedule, his body and brain still won't be able to cope with the decreased sleeping time. No matter how much we want to alter the truth, your body and brain will still need its required time to rest to be able to reenergize for the next day.
