Many have changed to Meghan Markle when she started dating Prince Harry in 2016 and it got complicated when she officially joined the royal family. It was revealed that the former actress was asked to "tone down" her beliefs which are reportedly contrary to what the royal family wanted Kate Middleton to do before he married Prince William.

In her book, The Making of Romance, royal expert Katie Nicholl wrote Queen Elizabeth II had a concern about Kate when she was still dating William. The queen was allegedly worried that Kate has no identity of her own and she didn't appear to have much of a work ethic.

The longest-reigning English monarch wanted to make sure that Kate will have work experience before she joins her family. The Queen is known to be a hard-working monarch and welcoming a new member of the royal family without a full-time job was unacceptable to her.

So Kate was advised to take on some charity works. She then worked with Starlight, a charity for terminally ill children. She also got employed briefly at fashion house Jigsaw before she worked with her family on their business Party Pieces.

Meghan Markle has a different story. The former Suits actress was allegedly advised to "tone down" her beliefs before she married Prince Harry.

Meghan has an established acting career and has been very active in her charity works long before she met the Duke of Sussex. She has been very outspoken about her various causes and has been a UN women's advocate for many years.

She also voiced out her opinion in politics. In 2016, the future wife of Harry called then-presidential candidate Donald Trump "misogynistic" and "divisive." Princess Diana's former butler Paul Burrell, however, said Meghan has some beliefs that don't sit well with the royal family and she may have been asked to "tone down" her beliefs.

"What comes with maturity is a set of beliefs and they don't sit well with the Royal Family. She has to toe the party line," he told Yahoo UK's Royal Box (via Express).

Meanwhile, Princess Diana's astrologer and friend Debbie Frank said the two duchesses certainly have few things in common. There was also a huge difference in age when they first met their now husbands and the length of time they dated before getting engaged.

Kate was only 19 when she first met William at university. They were able to get to know each other with minimal public attention because of the royal family's agreement with the press not to bother William while he was in education.

They dated for eight years before William got down on his knee and offered his mother, Princess Diana's engagement ring to Kate. Royal experts believed that Kate had ample time to adjust to the idea that she will become Queen in the future.

As for Meghan, she first met Harry in June 2016. They announced their engagement in November 2017 and got married in May 2019. It is a whirlwind romance compared to Kate and William's relationship. Meghan was also 35 and once married when she met Harry.
