Korean celebrities have led the initiative to donate funds to Daegu after the alarming rise of Coronavius patients in the city in less than a week. Park Seo Joon, Kim Woo Bin, Shin Min Ah, Lee Young Ae and Park Suk Kyu were only some of the celebrities who donated large sums of money to fund treatment and supplies for people afflicted by the disease.

According to a report by All Kpop, Itaewon Class star Park Seo Joon was among the first to donate 100 million won to the Daegu Community Chest after learning that Daegu did not have enough negative pressure rooms and medical equipment to treat Coronavirus (COVID 19) cases.

Television host Jang Sung Kyu also donated 50 million won to the Community Chest of Korea's Daegu branch after learning from a friend living in the area that they were even wearing masks at home and hardly went outside because of the virus scare.

"The situation has been raised to the highest alert level. Now, I don't feel comfortable just keeping tabs on COVID-19 and praying. I hope that my small act can be of help, even if that help may be small, to the people of Daegu who are trembling in fear," Jang Sung Kyu wrote in his Instagram post.

Veteran actress Lee Young Ae also donated 50 million won to the Community Chest of Korea to help the citizens of Daegu combat COVID-19. The Jewel in the Palace star also sent a message of hope that Daegu will soon be able to overcome this difficult time.

Celebrity couple Shin Min Ah and Kim Woo Bin also pitched in by donating 100 million won each to centers fighting the spread of the virus, Koreaboo reported. The couple's generous donation is expected to support services for the vulnerable population, especially for families who cannot purchase the medical supplies they need to protect themselves from the disease.

The organizations will use the couple's donation to provide face masks, sanitizers, and other supplies to individuals and families who are most in need of support.

According to the couple's agency, AM Entertainment, Kim Woo Bin wanted to help provide supplies for people who are unable to avail of the medical supplies while Shin Min Ah also wanted to support medical responders who are serving in the frontlines of treating those infected with the virus.

Daegu is currently deemed a special management zone by the Korean government because of the COVID 19 outbreak. The number of coronavirus patients has ballooned to 1,146 in South Korea, with 90 percent of patients concentrated in Daegu, Channel News Asia reported.
