Coronavirus continuously spreads all over the world, resulting in different travel bans, affecting the lives of the many. The royal family of Sweden is not even safe from this scare as King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia decided to cancel gala dinner due to fears of COVID-19.

A festivity was supposed to take place at the Swedish royal palace in Stockholm on Wednesday, March 4. Invitations were already sent six weeks ago to about 150 guests all over the world, but it was called off due to coronavirus.

According to Express, the palace's spokeswoman confirmed the event's cancellation to the Swedish newspaper, Svensk Damtidning. Head of Communication Margareta Thorgren said the decision to cancel the event was made before they issued a press release. "We have started contacting the 150 guests invited in person to make sure they have received the news," the spokeswoman added.

King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia were forced to cancel the gala dinner due to the advice of Sweden's public health authority. In a statement from the palace, it said that for the sake of the guests, they had to postpone the feast.

This has a connection to the newly detected number of cases of infection of the new coronavirus discovered in Sweden. In the estimate of the public health authority, the risk of detecting cases of COVID-19 in the country is high. However, the risk of general dissemination is low.

Hence, with the fear of spreading the virus, as hosts of the event, King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia decided to postpone the gala dinner. This decision was said to be reached with regard to the guests.

As of March 2, coronavirus already spreads to over 60 countries all over the world with about 88,000 people already contracted the disease. The global death toll has surpassed 3,000, People noted.

Europe is not even safe from this infection as it continues to infect people across the country. To control the virus from spreading, French officials decided to close down the famed Louvre Museum.

So far, Italy has the most significant number of coronavirus cases in Europe, showing a 50 percent jump of cases in just 24 hours. The current death toll is now 34.

In the U.S, there are about 88 confirmed cases of coronavirus, of which, about 28 are reportedly due to community spread. It means that people infected by the diseases are unknowingly exposing other people in their area to the infection.
