Jay Park is adamant not to file a lawsuit against UFC fighter Brian Ortega over a slapping incident in Las Vegas over the weekend. When a fan asked him about it on social media, the former member of K-pop group 2PM has a savage response.
The Korean-American rapper has been in the headlines after news broke out that he got punched in the face by Ortega. Apparently, the incident stemmed from Park's translation of UFC fighter Chan Sung Jung's statement about Ortega.
During an interview at Ariel Helwani's MMA Show last month, Park acted as Jung's translator. Jung, also known as the "The Korean Zombie," was asked if he would fight Ortega if Alex Volkanovski is not ready to fight him. Jung, however, said he would rather face Max Holloway than Ortega because the latter had avoided fighting him in the past.
"So he said, it doesn't matter, [Max] Holloway, [Alex] Volkanovski, or [Brian] Ortega, but Ortega already ducked him one time. So he doesn't need to fight a fighter that's ducking him already," Park interpreted Jung's answer.
Jung was referring to the incident when he and Ortega were slated to headline the main event in the UFC Fight Night 165. However, Ortega pulled out of the fight with an undisclosed injury.
After learning about the interview, Ortega alleged Park mistranslated Jung's response and claimed the singer was "talking trash" about him. He then threatened the "Abandoned" singer that he would slap him the next time he sees him.
Their paths eventually crossed at UFC 248 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas over the weekend. That was where the slapping happened.
Reports have it that when Jung went to the restroom, Ortega approached the Asia's Got Talent judge and slapped him. Ortega was quickly escorted out of the arena.
On Twitter, a fan asked Jay Park if he plans to sue Ortega for assault. The Korean singer said he has no plan to file a lawsuit and explained his reason for doing so.
"I don't sue people who have less than me," the singer said.
Many fans, however, don't agree with Park's decision. Some said letting Ortega off the hook easily is like admitting that it is okay to punch anyone outside the ring.
Jay Park's agency, AOMG, confirmed his remark on Twitter. In a statement, AOMG said the rapper doesn't have a plan to take legal action against the UFC fighter. The label also assured that Park did not sustain an injury when he got punched.
Meanwhile, in his latest post on Instagram, Jung slammed Ortega for slapping his musician friend. He dared his fellow UFC champion to fight him instead. Jung Chan Sung is the first athlete to sign with AOMG, the label founded by Jay Park.
