Kpop artist Chungha has signed a deal with American label ICM partners in an effort to penetrate the international music scene. ICM Partners also manages Kehlani, Khalid, Nicki Minaj, Yuna, among its roster of artists.
Chungha, a popular solo artist in Korea is best known for her dance tracks and catchy choreography and has earned the nickname dancing queen among her supporters. She first debuted as part of the Kpop girl group IOI after finishing in fourth on the idol search Produce 101, reported Soompi.
Among her top tracks are Gotta Go and her recent hit Snapping, which she released to positive reviews last year. She also regularly participates in Kdrama OSTs and most recently featured in Dr. Romantic 2 with the song My Love. Last year, she lent her voice to the soundtrack of IU's Hotel del Luna with the song At the End.
She recently made a comeback entitled Honestly I'm Tired, where she collaborated for a music video featuring actress Jo Bo Ah.
Transitioning to the global music scene should not be a problem for Chungha, who grew up in Dallas, Texas since she has a loyal following in Korea and in other countries as well. With her deal with ICM Partners, the agency will begin handling her global representation except in Asia where she will still be handled by MNH Entertainment.
Last year, she started her campaign for global recognition through a collaboration with artist Rich Brian.
Chungha's record deal is the first big news to come out about the artist after she halted scheduled activities in early March to go on self-isolation, Hello Kpop reported.
Two of her staff members were recently found positive of Coronavirus (COVID-19) prompting the artist to take precautionary measures and get tested as well. Her tests yielded negative results as of March 1.
The staff members were found positive of the disease after showing symptoms of COVID-19 shortly after returning from Italy.
"Chung Ha and her staff members will go into self-isolation as requested by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. For the sake of safety, all scheduled activities have been canceled for the time being, and we will continue to take the best possible measures and deal with (the virus) faithfully," MNH Entertainment added.
Among her canceled activities was a performance at the Head in the Clouds music and arts festival scheduled for March 7 in Jakarta.
