Sony finally confirmed the much talked about PlayStation5 following Microsoft's revelation of the Xbox Series X release. How exactly is PS5 matching with the fame that the Xbox Series X currently has?

Sony on Wednesday ended the rumors that continued to spread online about what to expect with its upcoming flagship product for the next-gen games. The company finally unveiled details on the PlayStation 5 specs that finally gave gamers the chance to see and compare if what the company has in store is able to come up to what Microsoft equipped the Xbox Series X with.

PS5 vs Xbox Series X GPU and SSD

A note Sony released revealed that PlayStation 5 will be powered by AMD RDNA 2-based GPU. The said processor will provide 36 compute units running at 2.23GHz, each with its 10.28 teraflops of power. On the other hand, AMD RDNA 2-based GPU will power the Microsoft Xbox Series X. It will boast at 52 compute units at 1.825GHz, each with its 12 teraflops of power. This means PS5 is capable of 10.28 trillion floating-point operations per second while Xbox Series X can do 12 trillion.

PS5 vs Xbox Series X CPU

There isn't much difference between the PlayStation 5 and Microsoft Xbox Series consoles' CPU. Xbox Series will have eight AMD-based Zen 2 cores clocked at 3.8GHz. However, the Microsoft game console's CPU cores drop to 3.6GHz each, which does not make much difference from the PS5 CPU, which has eight AMD-based Zen 2 cores clocked at 3.5GHz.

PS5 vs Xbox Series X Storage

A part of the revelation says Sony PS5 will boast at 825GB of storage and 5.5GB/s of performance. While the Xbox Series X will feature a custom 1TB NVME SSD, the load time may vary as its raw throughput is only 2.4GB/s.

Both Sony PlayStation 5 and Microsoft Xbox Series X will allow their next-gen console gamers to expand their storage. Sony could give way and validate PCIe 4.0-based drives compatibility with PS5 expansion, although gamers will have to keep their fingers crossed as it may be a complex process. Meanwhile, Microsoft is currently made a deal with Seagate for the production of expansion cards with as big as 1TB space.
