IU's malicious commenters will be receiving criminal punishment after they were charged by EDAM Entertainment for posting false and derogatory comments about the artist.

According to a report by All Kpop, the EDAM Entertainment confirmed that their legal action finally bore fruit against the offenders.

"In October of last year, the offenders were first punished in contempt of 'Article 311' of the criminal law (a jail term of less than 1 year or a fine of less than 2 million Won [USD $1,1612.34]) for the malicious slander against an artist. Other perpetrators are also facing criminal punishment," they announced in a statement.

The label further said that they will be pursuing a second round of complaints without any plans of leniency against the perpetrators. The company said that it will not cease filing complaints against malicious protectors and asked the fans for their help by reporting such individuals lurking in forums, threads and other platforms.

It can be recalled that last October, a legal complaint was filed against IU's malicious commenters on her behalf by EDAM Entertainment.

According to the agency, this was their way of protecting IU from notorious netizens who tarnish her reputation by posting false reports and leaving baseless negative statements on forums about the artist. In its initial statement, EDAM Entertainment assured fans that they cannot reveal specific information about the investigation but they were optimistic that the culprits will be punished by the law for their irresponsible actions.

IU signed with EDAM Entertainment after her contract with Kakao M expired this year. EDAM Entertainment is a relatively new agency established by IU's manager for 12 years, Bae Jong Han. However, IU and her team did not completely leave behind Kakao M because it is an investor of EDAM Entertainment making it a subsidiary.

After the success of last year's Hotel del Luna, her comeback album Love Poem and her concert tour, IU will be busy working with Park Seo Joon in her first film project.

According to a report by Soompi, IU will be starring in a film entitled Dream. The film will be helmed by Extreme Job director Lee Byung Hun.

Dream will revolve around a group of people who will participate in an event called the Homeless World Cup, coached by professional soccer player Yoon Hong Dae (Park Seo Joon), as part of his probation for an incident. IU will take on the role of the female lead but not much has been revealed about her character.
