The Nth Room Sex Scandal's main suspect Jo Joo Bin aka "Baksa" issued a public apology to the victims of the Telegram app controversy but chose to protect himself from further implication by remaining silent about the crime ring, as well as allegations that he threatened a member of the media for attempting to report on the illegal operation.
According to a report by All Kpop, the Seoul Metropolitan Police agency already forwarded the case of Jo Joo Bin, the alleged mastermind of the Telegram Nth Room sex scandal, to the prosecution. He will, reportedly, be charged for violating the Child Protection Act, the Privacy Act, and the Sexual Abuse Act for, allegedly, abusing, threatening and coercing the victims to perform deplorable sexual acts for different chatrooms on the encrypted app called Telegram. He will also be charged with fraud for his alleged involvement in revenge crimes.
"I apologize to those who were hurt by me. Thank you for ending the life of a demon I couldn't stop," the 25-year-old college graduate said as he dodged more questions from the media.
The widespread operation of a chat group called Nth Room on the Telegram app recently came to light after it was revealed that 74 women, including 16 minors were blackmailed into sending videos while performing acts bordering on torture porn.
Videos of women slicing the word slave on their skins using a knife, eating feces, inserting foreign objects into their private parts and being raped were among the content distributed in Nth Room chatrooms for a fee that, reportedly, ranged from USD$200 to USD$1200 for those who want to view premium content, or those that were uploaded live.
Police have, reportedly, arrested 124 suspects connected to the chatroom. During its operation, it was reported that 260,000 users participated in 56 Telegram chatrooms.
Recently, one of the victims came out to provide details on Nth Room operations and said she was recruited by Jo Joo Bin while she was still a middle school student who was looking for ways to earn income for her living expenses.
She said she posted on an app and received an invitation from a person to work part-time to receive 4 million won a month. She said that she also received a new phone from the person who later asked her to move to an app called Telegram. She said that she was compelled to disclose her personal information and photos to the person.
She said that she was also coerced to send photos and videos of herself performing sexual acts, fearing that her information and compromising images would be made public. The victim said that she was extorted with roughly 40 videos and remains traumatized to this day.
In a related report, it was revealed that the Baksa, allegedly, made threats to an SBS PD attempting to investigate the Nth Room crime ring. In a screenshot of the conversation that was made public, it was revealed that the suspected ringleader threatened to force one of the women to commit suicide if anything about his operation was publicized, All Kpop reported.
