Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are very popular on Instagram with over 11 million followers on the platform. Recently, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were spotted using the social media app to make a “monumental” promotion.
People all around the world are being affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Just like most leaders, senior members of the Royal family are also stepping up to fight against the global health crisis. The outbreak became even more intense within the Royal family after Prince Charles tested positive for COVID-19.
Now, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are taking to Instagram to share some pieces of advice to their followers. ABC News foreign correspondent Maggie Rulli spoke to HeirPod host Omid Scobie noting that the couple is using their popularity to share an important message.
"Look at how many followers the Sussexes are up to now,” she said. ”That's a huge platform for them to really post things like hand washing. Hand washing can be pretty boring so posting that on your Instagram feed isn't something you would normally do, not in a time where there's no crisis happening. So it's pretty monumental that they're using their 11.3 million follower platform to promote things like hand washing and proper social distancing."
Omid Scobie agreed with Maggie Rulli and said that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s message on Instagram was seen by millions of people. He also pointed out that Prince William, Kate Middleton, and the Sussexes are the new faces of the Royal family, which means that they can reach out to the younger generation more.
“That's 11.3 million people around the world that are seeing that message,” he said. “We have to remember that it is the Sussexes, and the Cambridges to an extent, that have that younger demographic of royal watcher following them. The people who aren't necessarily watching traditional television news or buying a newspaper. I think that it is great that every section of society is being reached in some way with this really important messaging… That is really using your platform for the best purpose. It's so not about yourself, it's a selfless act."
Meanwhile, a previous report claims that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to close down their Sussex Royal Foundation as they start their new life outside the Royal family.
