Fans have been wondering whether FBI season 3 will be renewed or canceled on CBS. Right now, there is no certain answer to that as the network has yet to announce the series' renewal status. There is no official news about the potential next installment, so its fate is still up in the air at the moment.

The second season has an average close to 0.9 ratings in the 18-49 demographic and with less than 9 million live viewers a season. CarterMatt noted that the ratings compared well from the ratings of the first season, which means a lot of viewers are still interested in checking out the show.

Hence, there is a huge possibility that FBI season 3 will be renewed rather than being canceled. The series still has loyal audiences and some new viewers are likely watching it. In addition, the series also has a spin-off, which indicates its long-term future.

For instance, there is FBI: Most Wanted out there and it seems like CBS is interested in doing another spin-off at some point. Clearly, the network is invested, so there's no point in canceling the main series. What viewers only need now is the official renewal announcement of FBI season 3.

Also, there were already a few stories for FBI season 3. Filming of the second installment was forced to shut down earlier than expected due to the COVID-19 concerns. The episode featuring Chicago PD star Tracy Spiridakos becomes the finale, which didn't feature Missy Peregrym's Maggie Bell.

It's uncertain whether or not there will be another crossover between FBI and Chicago PD in the future. But, both shows are produced by Dick Wolf and this is also the first time a crossover happened between the two series. So, a crossover may still happen at some point.

Meanwhile, since Maggie was missing in the finale, many were wondering if Peregrym is leaving the series. It can be noted that Maggie temporarily left because she's on a different assignment right now. But, there is no plan for the character to leave the series forever.

Instead, Maggie's absence has something to do with Peregrym's real-life pregnancy. Hence, viewers may still the character when the potential FBI season 3 arrives. Perhaps, some of the episodes that weren't filmed will the included in the next installment, if ever renewed.

CarterMatt also noted that some of these episodes may be retooled in some ways to reflect on what's going on with the real world right now. And if ever CBS will officially renew the series for the third season, viewers may need to wait for a little while since it may not premiere until the fall.
