Legacies season 3 has already been renewed, but there are still a lot of uncertainties story-wise. The second installment aired most of its episodes, yet there are no words when would the remaining episodes air. Due to the current health crisis, the series halted its production and its fate remains up in the air at the moment.
Although there are still a lot of uncertainties, many are still excited about Legacies season 3. Many were also hoping that some classic characters from either The Vampire Diaries or The Originals might be appearing in the next installment. Nothing is confirmed at the moment, but executive producer Julie Plec hinted its likelihood.
In a Q&A session via Twitter, Plec noted that it would be great to get Mikael back into the world as long as there's a right story fits for the character. He is one of the most dangerous characters, so there's might be a way on how to bring him back in Legacies season 3 or in the future. He is the reason vampires came to exist and also the oldest and one of the powerful vampires in TVD and TO.
Plec also discussed the likelihood of Caroline or Bonnie appearing on Legacies season 3 or at some point. The executive producer said that "maybe one day" these characters may be part of the story. Also, everything comes down to both stories and them being interested in joining the series. As per Caroline, CarterMatt noted her appearance might be uncertain.
Caroline has a familiar history with both Josie and Lizzie, yet she never appeared in the series. The character was last seen in The Originals back in 2018, so it remains to be seen whether she turns up Legacies at some point. For now, viewers need to wait for a while, especially since the current health crisis has affected a lot of shows.
The renewal of Legacies season 3 was issued long before the health crisis, and this could be one of the reasons why the second installment hasn't been able to air the rest of its run. Reportedly, the series may start filming again later this year and then air it in the fall -- or as long as everything returns to normal in the next few months.
No new episodes of the second season are currently airing. The series didn't promote episode 16 as the season finale, so there's a chance the current installment is coming back. But, CarterMatt noted that may not happen anytime soon. The good news now is that viewers can re-watch the episodes as the series has just recently become available on Netflix in the United States.
