Queen Elizabeth II is known for so many things, from her iconic fashion choices to her hats, especially for her love for dogs. Her Majesty, reportedly, owns over 30 corgis in her reign but decided not to adopt anymore due to her advancing age. But as she still has "dorgis," a mixed breed of corgi and dachshund, this is what the monarch chose to feed her lovable royal dogs.
The Queen's 30 Pembroke Welsh corgis descended from her first corgi, Susan, which Princess Elizabeth II gave for her 18th birthday. However, her last corgi, reportedly, died in 2018, and she was only left with two dorgis, Vulcan and Candy. So, what is she feeding these two? Basic dog food from the United Kingdom's largest supermarket chain, Tesco.
On the Channel 5 documentary Inside Waitrose, an expert revealed Queen Elizabeth feeds her dogs Tesco basic dog food. The royal family is said to be huge dogs fans, and they all have dogs but instead of feeding them with the poshest dog food with beef, wild boar, apple, parsnip, carrots, and seaweed, they go for the basic one, Daily Express noted.
Willow, Queen Elizabeth's last corgi, passed away after being put down due to cancer. It was the 14th generation of her first corgi, Susan. The dog's death marked the first time since World War II that Her Royal Highness doesn't own a corgi anymore.
Queen Elizabeth decided not to breed more dogs or even adopt one. Why? According to The Telegraph, she believed it wouldn't be wise to get any more dogs as she didn't want to leave them behind when she passes away.
The leader of the Commonwealth is about to turn 94 years old on April 21. Although she looks healthy, she knows that her reign will come to an end someday. She just proves that she indeed has a great heart to think of the dogs' welfare when she's gone. Anyhow, she still has dorgis to keep her company.
Vulcan and Dorgi descended from Queen Elizabeth's corgi that mated with her sister, Prince Margaret's, dachshund, the New York Post reported. She will also never be left without a dog, as she has other dogs over the years, aside from corgis and dorgis.
Queen Elizabeth has hunting dogs, the same breed as the ones at Sandringham, her royal estate in Norfolk, England, just about over 100 miles near Buckingham Palace. She also adopted a Sealyham terrier from her sister.
