WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for How to Get Away with Murder series finale. Read at your own risk.
How to Get Away with Murder wrapped up its run on ABC after six seasons. Now that it concluded, many were wondering whether the show would continue in a different way, such as a spin-off series. This is an inevitable question as the Viola Davis-led series is one of the popular shows in the network.
How to Get Away with Murder is a dramatic, intense, and bold series, and it seems like there are still more stories to tell when it comes to some of the characters. While nothing is confirmed about the spin-off at the moment, series creator Pete Nowalk doesn't close the door for its possibility.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Nowalk hinted something more could happen, though it's not his top priority at the moment, as he revealed he pitched something else. His plan right now is to make a show that can exist on its own, meaning there's no need to watch How to Get Away with Murder.
Nowalk said he wanted to write about something else -- not about law this time. Despite that, he noted that he loves the world and characters of the series. He's still not closing the door when it comes to continuing it in the future, saying they could definitely do it and would want to make it unique.
As for the possible story of the spin-off, CarterMatt noted Tegan's storyline makes the most sense. She is a mysterious character and it seems like she still has more stories to tell. Her past wasn't really explored, so it's interesting to see what she went through before.
There are also other interesting stuff worth-exploring in the future, including what happened to Laurel's mother. The series said something about it but hasn't shown the circumstances behind the incident. There's still a possibility that these stories would be explored at some point in the future.
But for now, nothing is certain. And if ever a spin-off may happen, it will not arrive anytime soon. The current global health crisis makes it impossible to get everything's done. It might be a long wait before we could see a spin-off on the small screen.
Meanwhile, How to Get Away with Murder series finale answered most of the questions hanging from the beginning. Annalise's funeral was actually a flash-forward scene, set it the future in which she died due to natural causes at a ripe old age.
The series also showed a glimpse of everyone in the future. Nate established a Justice Center and named it after his father, while Michaela pursued her dream of becoming a lawyer and judge. Oliver and Connor also reunited and they were together at Annalise's funeral.
Also, Laura and Wes' son is Christopher. He grew up, mentored by Annalise, and became a lawyer. The closing minutes of the series finale proved to be interesting as it showed Christopher on his first day of class -- which mirrored the scene in the pilot episode.
