As a member of the British royal family, Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, tries to keep a low profile. But in a rare instance, the wife of Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex, has opened up about her mother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth.

Sophie shared in an interview for the Royal Windsor Horse Show that Queen Elizabeth is really passionate about horses. The Queen apparently gets a kick out of her horses being adored when they take part in horse shows.

The countess said that her mother-in-law will always have a huge smile on her face around her horses, most especially if they won competitions. Sophie said that Queen Elizabeth's passion for these animals is fantastic to witness.

Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus pandemic, this year's Royal Windsor Horse Show, which has been established since 1943, is not taking place as before. It's usually held in May at the castle grounds of Windsor.

To mark the event, however, this year's horse show celebrations are happening virtually. Prince Edward also took part in the virtual showcase and saw a silver lining to this event since the online environment made the event more accessible to the rest of the world via the internet.

Meanwhile, Sophie also revealed some rare tidbits about her daughter, Lady Louise. At 17 years old, the young royal has also developed a strong passion for horses, just like her grandmother.

Sophie said that Lady Louise is such a natural horse rider that she can't keep up with her daughter when they are on a trail. However, the teen royal won't still be able to compete at this year's events, even if it did push through, since she would be in the middle of school exams.

Lady Louise bonds a lot with her grandparents, especially Prince Philip, when it comes to horse riding and driving a horse carriage. They have been pictured numerous times riding together.

Speaking of being photographed, Sophie also talked about how she and Prince Edward are trying to keep Lady Louise and her brother James, Viscount Severn, out of the royal media spotlight. She said that they want their children to grow up as normal as possible so their privacy is very important to the family.

The countess believes that they are preparing their children for their adult life, when they get jobs and earn a living, by giving them a normal upbringing. This means that Lady Louise and James won't become working members of the royal family when they are of age.
