It seems that some folks who are relying on the application were able to access the wrong email accounts, raising concerns on strangers being able to read messages which are not theirs.
Branding itself as one of the best email apps ever, the recent glitch which involved roughly 6,480 users is costly. And while the company considers it a small number of users, hearing that there were over 6,000 users affected by it is not small and something to shrug off. Proof that some users were able to access email accounts were not theirs was even shared on social media.
The latest on the issue is that people behind the Edison mail application have fixed the glitch. But the damage has been done and there is no telling if people who accidentally checked emails of others will result in issues moving forward. Further, the credibility of Edison email has been severely tarnished. Some have even said that they don't plan to use the app again because of the recent problem.
Looking at a broader perspective, the Edison email app may have just shown a vulnerability. And each time that comes around, hackers will certainly be enticed to see if they can do further harm and exploit the bug. Easily, the Edison email app has placed itself in a pretty precarious situation that would further dampen its credibility.
Also, it would be best to note that the issue was limited to iOS. There is also a version available for Android although no cases of similar glitches have been reported. But then again, the fact that there is a potential bug may challenge hackers to try and see if there is a bug on the other version.
