After Neve Campbell revealed Scream 5 is in the works, another original character is about to join the new installment of the movie franchise. David Arquette, who is famously know as Sheriff Dewey Riley, is set to reprise his role for the new slasher film.

David Arquette will return as Sheriff Dewey Riley in the upcoming Scream 5. The 48-year-old actor is one of the movie series' original casts. Hence, it may only be fitting that fans may once again see him protecting Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell).

Deadline confirmed the actor's return to the movie series. After nine years since Scream 4's release, he couldn't hide his excitement to face Ghostface once again.

In a statement, he said he is beyond thrilled to play the role of Sheriff Dewey Riley again and reunite with the whole Scream family. He then admitted that the film franchise had been a big part of his life. Hence, he is now looking forward to honoring the late Wes Craven's legacy by doing Scream 5.

David Arquette took on the role of the sheriff in all the four Scream movies, from 1996 to 2011. Although details about the new installment remain under lock and key, talks are said to be underway to bring back more original cast members.

One of the movie series' legacy stars is Neve Campbell, who played the lead role of Sidney Prescott in all the four Scream movies. In an interview with the YouTube host Jake Hamilton, as noted by Hollywood Life, she said people behind the film came to her, and they were now having conversations about it.

However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they have yet to have solidified plans about the movie. They have no idea when the film will occur, but they are hoping to see all the elements put into place to make it happen. When the government imposed new safety protocols, Scream 5's production is eyed to begin later this year in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Meanwhile, according to Cinema Blend, David Arquette's return to the movie franchise only means that the new installment will have a connection to the first four films. It may not be a reboot, just like how the Scream TV series was made.

No plot details have been revealed yet, although it is widely known that Ghostface will be once again back to kill people left and right. Scream 5 will be the first movie in the franchise that will not be under Wes Craven's directorial scheme. It will be directed by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick and penned by Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.
