Prince Harry and Meghan Markle said in their withdrawal announcement back in January that they wished to be “financially independent” after stepping down as senior royals. Since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex receive funds from The Firm when they were working royals, many expected that they will not get anything after their royal exit.
UK taxpayers are also paying for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s security. While Britons didn’t mind it before, some of them are now upset if they will continue paying for the couple’s security after they turned their backs on the Royal Family.
However, a new report claims that Prince Charles has agreed to hand Prince Harry and Meghan Markle a whopping £2million a year to help them pay for their security. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are currently residing in Los Angeles with their son Archie. And since they have not started their career in the US yet due to the coronavirus outbreak, the couple is, allegedly, still receiving funds from the future King.
TalkRADIO's Mike Graham asked Charles Rae if the UK is still paying for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s security. The royal expert claimed that they still are because “at the moment Prince Charles is giving them £2million a year” to help them pay for their security.
Charles Rae pointed out that what made this thing an issue is the fact that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle chose to leave the UK and move to the US to start a new life. It should also be noted that they were the ones who said that they wanted to be “financially independent.” So if it is true that Prince Charles is giving the couple £2million a year, then that’s not being “financially independent” at all.
The royal expert also shared that Meghan Markle was speculated to go back to her showbiz roots after moving to Los Angeles, but the coronavirus pandemic ruined her plans. "Everybody’s plans have been screwed up and they are no different,” he said, adding that he doesn’t know how the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would get that money in the future.
According to Celebrity Net Worth, Prince Harry’s net worth is $40 million while Meghan Markle’s net worth is $5 million. But a previous report claimed that the Duke of Sussex’s wealth may worth less in the US. And now that he’s living in Los Angeles, Prince Harry is also obliged to pay his taxes.
