Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced earlier this year that they will be stepping down from their senior royal roles to focus more on their family and charities. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex also noted that they wish to be “financially independent” as they start their new life outside the Royal family.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle then promised to pay back all the taxpayer funds that were used to renovate their Windsor, Frogmore Cottage home and pay commercial rent on the property. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex also agreed to not be funded by the Sovereign Grant anymore.
Being royal by blood, Prince Harry’s net worth is expected to be really high, which it is. However, a newly-resurfaced report claims that Meghan Markle’s husband’s wealth may worth less in the US.
According to Celebrity Net Worth, Prince Harry’s net worth is $40 million. But it may not be as much as originally thought.
“One problem for the pair is that Brexit has left the British pound very weak on international exchanges,” financial writer Brett Arends explained. “As a result, Harry’s royal fortune — inherited from his mother, the late Princess Diana, and great-grandmother — will go a lot less far on this side of the pond than it would have a few years ago.”
Now that Prince Harry is living in the US, he is expected to pay his taxes.
“The US, almost uniquely among countries, taxes citizens and other ‘US persons’ worldwide, even if they move abroad and never return,” he continued. [This] potentially raises a situation in which the Internal Revenue Service started sending notices to Buckingham Palace demanding that British royal trusts file accounts and pay US taxes.”
Although Prince Harry and Meghan Markle still receive funds from Prince Charles and the Duchy of Cornwall, they need to find sources of income. Previous reports revealed that the couple will be creating their own TV firm. Rumor has it that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be providing voiceovers and producing documentaries on “worthy causes,” and this is where they will be earning their money.
Earlier reports claim that there is a possibility that Meghan Markle will return to Hollywood. The Duchess of Sussex was an actress before she met and married Prince Harry in 2018, so the entertainment industry is a place that may feel like home to her. The insider revealed that the former actress is “actively looking” for an agent or manager.
