It has been quite a while since Sony came out with a new "Gran Turismo" game. The last one was "Gran Turismo Sport" which came out in 2017. It was the seventh installment in the series which started in 1997 for the PlayStation. Years have passed and a new version has yet to be released. And for a fleeting moment, most got the impression that one would come out this year. It made sense considering all eyes were on the PlayStation 5 which may reportedly be unveiled in June.

Next Level Racing (NLR), a company that specializes in racing simulator cockpits, sparked something on social media recently with an Instagram post. It read "What racing game are you most looking forward to in 2020?" which included several game logos. That included "Dirt 5," "F1 2020" and "Automobilista." But it was the fourth one that captured the attention of most. It was the "GTA 7" logo that ended up placing the company in the hot seat.

The only thing that is known about "Gran Turismo 7" is that the game remains in development. "Gran Turismo Sport" remains the latest installment in the series and Next Level Racing ended up retracting and explaining the logo. According to them, the post was misinterpreted and that the "mock logo" allegedly came from the web, IGN reported.

“There have been assumptions made in the media that are quite simply untrue. Due to this, we have decided to take down our previous social post. Our Graphic Design Department used the mock logo that is circulated on the internet. We do apologize for any confusion that this might have caused,” NLR's post read.

The IG post has been taken down but several sites were able to save screenshots. Now, NLR is trying to pin the blame on media for misinterpreting the post. But just the same, using a mocked logo alongside other familiar ones raises a lot of questions. Was it taken from the web or the actual one from Sony?

There are some theorizing that Sony may have called the attention of NLR for that IG post, a reason why they had to bring it down and explain their actions. But passing the blame to media and bloggers only makes the matter worse.

As for "Gran Turismo 7," the wait continues. Some are still hoping to receive an update if Sony does unveil the PlayStation 5 next month. But from the way things stand right now, the chances of that happening are low to none.
