President Donald Trump chose to play golf on the Memorial Day weekend at his golf resort in Virginia on May 23 and 24 when he should have led the United States in paying homage to American soldiers killed in America's wars and mourning the close to 100,000 Americans killed by COVID-19 under his watch.

True to form as America's golfing president, Trump took to the links with three golf buddies at the Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Virginia. None of them were wearing facemasks or a face covering of any kind, said media reports.

Democratic Party presidential nominee-to-be Joe Biden on Sunday criticized Trump for playing golf on Memorial Day weekend when the U.S. death toll from COVID-19 continues its inexorable rise towards 100,000 persons. Biden unveiled a 30-second video showing Trump playing a round of golf at his Virginia club on Saturday.

Nearly 100,000 Americans have died, said the ad, which has had more than 1.3 million views. It also said the death toll is still rising while the president is playing golf.

Organizations tracking Trump's addiction to golf assert he's visited his own golf clubs on more than 400 days since taking office, which is a third of the total number of days he's spent as U.S. president. No other president has spent this much time at play and not at work.

Former President Barack Obama took to the links from time to time and then citizen Trump didn't like it. In 2016, Trump bragged he wouldn't have time for golf if he became president. Trump said he's going to be working for Americans and isn't going to have time to go play golf, he told supporters in Virginia.

Trump, however, has spent more days on golf courses than any U.S. president. There are even websites that track the number of days and the number of taxpayer dollars Trump has spent golfing.

One of these websites, "Trump Golf Count," lists down the 251 times Trump has visited golf clubs since becoming president in January 2017. The website estimates Trump's regular golfing excursions have cost American taxpayers more than $134 million, the largest such tab run-up by any U.S. president. It also lists down the 119 times Trump has played golf thus far during his term as president.

Trump Golf Count asserts Trump plays golf when he's at his clubs, Trump often doesn't play the full 18 holes considering his obesity. The website pointed out the White House staff rarely admits Trump plays golf, despite photos of him on the course published in newspapers and spread on social media.

Among the interesting factoids about Trump's golfing habits compiled by Trump Golf Count:

* Trump has visited his golf clubs once in every five days he's spent in office.

* At this rate, he would have visited his golf clubs 298 times in four years, or until his presidency ends on Dec. 31, 2020.

* Obama played golf only 306 times during his eight years as president.

* The Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in Bedminster, New Jersey and the Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida are Trump's favorite golf courses. Trump's spent 127 days golfing at Mar-a-Lago and 75 days golfing at Bedminster.
