Best-selling author Emily Giffin is apologizing for her criticism against Meghan Markle. The writer of Something Borrowed acknowledged that it was mean of her to call the Duchess of Sussex "unmaternal."

In May, Giffin posted a comment about Prince Harry's wife on her social media after the release of Meghan's video reading to their son, Archie Harrison, who turned a year old that month. Giffin posted a screenshot of the Duchess of Sussex and said that she looked unmaternal and phony and that her video with Archie was "uncomfortable to watch."

Giffin received backlash for that post and was tagged as a racist. Commenters on Instagram said that the author's actions were hateful and pathetic. Some also said that she wanted all the negative engagement for her book release as "hate" is the currency critics like Giffin use.

In a recent interview with the Associated Press, the author said that her comment against Meghan was not legitimateand she agreed that it was simply mean.  She also said that she needs to be more careful about her comments on social media, where it's unfiltered.

Giffin said that she will do better in showing who she really is in real life, adding that she can also make mistakes in the platform. She also issued an apology on the day she made the comments against Meghan and admitted that she's been a fan of the British monarchy for a long time. She defended that she's not a racist and actually celebrates the fact that there's a biracial member of the British royal family.

The apology comes as Giffin has released her 10th bookThe Lies That Bind. The author, who is based in Atlanta, became a sensation when her 2005 book Something Borrowed became a hot selling title that was turned into a movie starring John Krasinski and Kate Hudson.

Meanwhile, the Duchess of Sussex finally spoke about the George Floyd killing and the Black Lives Matter protests in the U.S. Meghan said that she was nervous about adding her comments to the issue because she was concerned it will be misconstrued and over analyzed.

Meghan spoke spontaneously about racism and discrimination that royal insiders said the duchess appeared raw and authentic. Sources said that Meghan and Prince Harry have been having conversations with proponents and community leaders of the Black Lives Matter movement so that they will be more aware of the cause.
