Prince William can't contain his excitement over the return of something that he's been waiting for so long. So thrilled was the Duke of Cambridge that he posted a rare message to express his happiness on social media.

Not known for posting on Instagram often, Prince William didn't hold back and thanked the return of football season in the U.K. on June 17. Saying that everyone has missed this game, Prince William said that it was "so good" to have his favorite sports back.

It's a widely known fact that Prince William is a huge fan of the Aston Villa. Royal fans in the comments section of his post said that they expect the Duke of Cambridge to have his Villa scarf ready when the team's first game airs following the weeks-long coronavirus lockdown.

Prince William is also the President of the Football Association (FA) and he's been known to watch the games live at the bleachers with his son, Prince George. One time in October, Prince William, Kate, Prince George and Princess Charlotte were at an Aston Villa game versus the Norwich team.

Prince William later revealed that he couldn't cheer for his favorite team properly because they were sitting at the home fans' section. Instead, he left the cheering and the jumping for joy to Prince George, but the six-year-old had to told by his dad not to shout quite loud because they were not at the Aston Villa turf.

Prince William's love for Aston Villa started a long time ago when he was still in school. He said in a BBC interview in 2015 that he wanted to root for a middling team that will bring more rollercoaster moments of wins and losses for fans.

He also said that his team has a great history that he could truly connect with. For Prince William, the fans of Aston Villa are also some of the friendliest people to hang around with.

Meanwhile, football's return will have some social distancing and other limits in place to adhere to the government's guidelines. For instance, the stadium will only be allowed to have a capacity of 300 people.

It comes as the U.K. is slowly easing of its lockdown measures against the coronavirus. The country is also slowly reopening business and returning to some semblance of normalcy despite the threats of the virus's transmission.
