"At this moment, there is a hotel like this in the world, in which the outer walls are covered with gold-plated bricks," said Nguyen Huu Duong, chairman of the Hoa Binh Group, which owns the hotel. "The interior of the building includes bathrooms with gilded sinks and toilets. So, this is the most spectacular, unique and lavish hotels in the world."

Dong also said the hotel wants wants "ordinary people to the super rich... to check-in" both physically and on social media.

He also revealed the gold plating use lavishly throughout the hotel was sourced locally. Gold is big in Vietnam and operates as a backup currency. The gold jewelry sector has been growing steadily.

Duong said Hoa Binh Group has a factory that can do the gold-plating, so the cost for cladding the hotel's furniture "is quite cheap." The COVID-19 pandemic remains a huge challenge as it restricts the entry of the hotel's target clientele, which are business travelers. The flood of eager guests is nowhere to be seen -- yet.

"For sure next year, we will make money," said Duong
