Former BIGBANG member Seungri will be tried for eight charges by the Ground Operations Command in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province in connection with the various scandals that he was involved in before his enlistment.

According to a report by All Kpop, the Korean Army reported on July 5 that Seungri's case was originally assigned to the Seoul Central District Court's Criminal Agreement Department. The department later transferred the case to the General Military Court of the 5th Corps Command, where Seungri was assigned after his five-week basic training.

However, the case was referred back to the General Military Court of the Ground Operations Command. Pundits believe that the transfer had to do with the gravity of the case since the latter is more experienced in dealing with trials at a higher level. The formal case was filed by the branch office of the General Military Court on June 23.

Among the cases that Seungri will be tried for include Violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, of Specific Economic Crimes; Violation of the Food Sanitation Act; Violation of the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes; Filming for the Use of Cameras; Violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Sex Trade, and Violation of the Foreign Exchange Act.

The cases that Seungri will be facing are related to his alleged involvement in the Burning Sun scandal where he was accused of facilitating prostitution for overseas investors between 2015 and 2016.He was also involved in allegations of embezzlement along with his business partner Yoo In Suk or Yuri Holdings, Korea Times reported.

In his recent trial, Yoo pleaded guilty to all charges and promised to provide the court with a statement to detail his degree of participation and mitigating circumstances. It can be recalled that Seungri was also dragged into the molka scandal with Jung Joon Young and Choi Jong Hoon for sharing videos of intimate acts with women without their consent.

The two idols were sentenced to jail terms for their crime but a court document seemed to absolve Seungri since he was part of a separate chat group involved in business, Koreaboo reported.

Seungri was also investigated for illegal gambling overseas as well as the illegal act of hwangchigi or illegal foreign currency transactions which he earlier denied. No schedule has been set for Seungri's trial but the public has been keeping a close watch on the development of the case. Seungri enlisted to the military last March and retired from the entertainment industry last year at the height of the scandal.
