Batwoman season 2 has finally found its new lead. Warner Bros. TV and The CW recently confirmed that God Friended Me alum Javicia Leslie is joining the second installment and will be taking on the lead role. She's not going to play Ruby Rose's Katy Kane, instead, she's a new character named Ryan Wilder.

Batwoman season 2 introduces Ryan Wilder, who is likable, messy, goofy, and untamed. She is entirely different from Katy Kane, the woman who wore the Batsuit before her. No one is there to keep her on track, so she spent her years as a drug-runner and masked her pain through her bad habits.

Now, Ryan is living in her van with her plants. She is a girl who could still milk for an alley cat and could kill someone with her bare hands. Ryan is described as the most dangerous type of fighter; highly skilled and wildly undisciplined.

Ryan is also an out lesbian, athletic, passionate, raw, fallible, and not a stereotypical All-American hero. Meanwhile, Leslie has something to say about taking on the role. She said that she's extremely proud because to be the first Black actress playing the iconic character Batwoman.

As a bisexual woman, she added that she's honored to join Batwoman season 2, which has been a trailblazer for the LGBTQ+ community. Rose, on the other hand, also reacted to the news about the casting. She posted on her Instagram account, sharing her thoughts regarding the decision.

The actress wrote she's glad that the role will be played by a Black woman. She congratulated Leslie on taking over the bat cape. The actress added that Leslie will be walking into an amazing cast and crew. Rose ended her message by saying she can't wait to watch Batwoman season 2.

Even though she departed in the series, Rose is still supportive of her former show. Her character's disappearance would be the central storyline of the second installment. Yet, there is no confirmation at the moment whether Rose could have an eventual cameo. The series will focus on a new era, with Leslie eventually taking over the bat cape.

As for the release date of Batwoman season 2, nothing is officially confirmed as of yet. Filming is, reportedly, slated to begin later this year, leading to a premiere in 2021. However, everything all depends on the current situation. There could be a delay due to the real-life health crisis. Everyone could start working as soon as the situation gets a little bit better.
