Ruby Rose will not be reprising her Kate Kane role once Batwoman season 2 premieres on The CW. Since then, there have been a lot of questions when it comes to the fate of the character, with some speculating the titular character will be killed off at some point.

But just recently, showrunner and executive producer Caroline Dries confirmed via Twitter that they're not planning to kill off Kane Kate in Batwoman season 2. Dries is aware that most LGBTQ+ characters usually die on different shows, something that she isn't interested in doing.

Instead, the writers are planning to make the titular character's disappearance be one of the central stories of the second installment. It has been previously reported that Rose' Kate Kane will not be recast, and a new character wearing the cowl will arrive.

And since the character won't be killed off, some were wondering whether Rose will return in the series for one last time to pass the baton on. Perhaps, Batwoman season 2 may also address what happened to her and why she disappeared.

For now, CarterMatt noted that it's unlikely Rose will return in the latest installment. As for the reason why the series chose not to recast Kate Kane, it may have something to do with the storylines already opened -- especially since a lot of characters are ties to her.

In a previous report via TVLine, Dries discussed the reason why they decided not to recast the character and chose to include a new face instead. During the ATX Television Festival virtual interview, she revealed that she initially wants to recast Kane Kane.

Dries considered doing this move because there have been a couple of episodes already written, so everything would be seamless if they don't find another actor to fill the void. But after some time, and with the help of Arrowverse executive producer Greg Berlanti, she comes up with a realization.

Dries revealed that Berlanti told her to reboot Batwoman as a different character rather than recasting a new face. This is also a way to pay respect to what Rose put into the character. Viewers saw the titular character through her lens, so it would be odd if a new face takes on the role in Batwoman season 2.

Meanwhile, the release date of Batwoman season 2 remains uncertain at the moment. There are still a lot of things that should be considered. For instance, the current global health crisis makes it impossible for the series to return until 2021.
