Online retail giant Amazon recently listed the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller with an Adults Only rating. The listing raised a lot of eyebrows, especially fans and gamers. Over the years, the Japanese gaming company Nintendo has been considered as family-friendly by critics and fans.

Nintendo Switch Pro Controller's AO Rating

Amazon accidentally posted a standard Nintendo Switch Pro Controller on its site. The listing comes with the Adults Only (AO) rating. In the gaming industry, there are only 29 games with the same AO rating and all of these games, except for one, are only released on PC.

At present, the ESRB rating system ranges from E for Everyone to Mature (M). Interestingly, there are a couple of rare ratings at the end of each scale. These are the Early Childhood for games focused on educating with the EC marker with the other one that comes with the AO marker.

For the uninitiated, the Adults Only rating is viewed as more explicit compared to the Mature rating. Over the years, Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony have forbidden any titles that the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) rates as Adult Only. Currently, the AO rating is the most explicit rating for video games.

Interestingly, the Adults Only rating is only applicable to video games. Hardware, consoles and controllers do not get the same rating. The reason for this is because these are just platforms to the worlds that the games offer.

Fortunately, Amazon has changed the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller rating to E, which means it is for everyone. As mentioned above, the Nintendo switch pro should not get any rating at all. Although the error is now fixed, Nintendo has not made any comment on the erroneous listing. Amazon has not issued any statements to clarify the issue.
