Meghan Markle, reportedly, detailed in court the real reason why she did not give her dad, Thomas Markle, the money for his medical bills when he was hospitalized due to a heart attack just weeks before her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018.

Court documents obtained by The Telegraph showed that Meghan Markle did not send financial help because Thomas could apparently pay his medical bills. He earned a substantial amount of money from the tabloid press when he peddled stories about his daughter.

The paper indicated that the Duchess of Sussex knew her dad had more than enough money for his heart treatment. Thomas, reportedly, also acknowledged that he earned nearly $2,500 (£1,996) to pay off the excess of his medical bills, apart from his insurance coverage.

Meghan and Thomas' financial dealings were detailed as part of a lawsuit the Duchess of Sussex filed against the Associated Newspapers, which owns the publication Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday. The royal alleges that her once "very close" relationship with her father has, now, been broken because these news outlets exploited her father and breached her privacy.

The legal documents also stated that Meghan acknowledges her father supported her financially in her younger years, especially when she completed a college degree. When she started earning her own money as a waitress, calligrapher and actress, Meghan said that she, also, reciprocated by giving money and supporting her father financially.

Meghan also set it clear that Thomas paid for her first wedding to producer Trevor Engelson in 2011 because he volunteered and not because she asked for it, despite what was reported in the papers. These financial details were entered in court to reportedly negate allegations that Meghan did not give any financial support to her dad prior to her marriage to Prince Harry.

The lawyers for the Duchess of Sussex said that, contrary to the stories published about her relationship with her family, the daughter and father were close until Thomas was targeted by the British tabloid press to dish dirt on Meghan. She, apparently, blames the tabloid for why her relationship with her father collapsed.

At the heart of this lawsuit is the letter she wrote to her father before she was to marry Prince Harry. The contents of this letter were published in an allegedly malicious manner by Mail on Sunday. Meghan Markle claimed that the news outlet edited parts of it to paint her in the negative light.
