Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced earlier this year that they would be stepping down from their senior royal roles to focus more on their family and charities. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, also, noted that they wish to be “financially independent” as they start their new life outside the Royal family. The couple also agreed to not be funded by the Sovereign Grant anymore.
However, reports revealed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle still receive funds from Prince Charles and the Duchy of Cornwall. According to the CEO of the anti-monarchist group Republic, this should not be the case.
"Harry and Meghan have got £30million plus in the bank. They will have a huge income just on that alone, they can do whatever any wealthy person does best and use their money to generate income. I am sure they will have some pulling power and some earning power as speakers and so on,” Graham Smith, the organization's CEO, said.
Graham Smith pointed out that the U.K. doesn’t owe Meghan Markle and Prince Harry a penny. He, also, rejected the Duchess of Sussex’s claim that her royal wedding provided an economic boost for Britain. "There just isn’t any evidence to support that whatsoever,” he noted.
The Republic's CEO believes that it’s actually the other way around. He said that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s 2018 wedding was a "net-loss" for U.K. taxpayers.
Meanwhile, Being royal by blood, Prince Harry’s net worth is expected to be really high, which it is. However, a resurfaced report claimed that Meghan Markle’s husband’s wealth may worth less in the U.S.
According to Celebrity Net Worth, Prince Harry’s net worth is $40 million. But, it may not be as much as originally thought. Now that the Duke of Sussex is living in the U.S., he is expected to pay his taxes.
President Donald Trump, also, had made it clear that the U.S. government will not pay for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s security, so they have to do it themselves. A previous report revealed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are asking Prince Charles to pay for their security bills. The Prince of Wales is, allegedly, paying for the couple’s round the clock security.
The insider said that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle expected that British taxpayers would continue paying for their security bills. But, after knowing that this will not happen, the couple asked Prince Charles to "step in."
