Following an apparent recovery in coronavirus infections and fatalities, Europe's Germany is starting to battle a new wave of COVID-19 outbreaks, with over 1,000 cases over the past three days.

Germany on third day of COVID-19 resurgence

For the third consecutive day, Germany logged over 1,000 daily new infections, with 1,122 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, on Friday.

As part of the efforts to curb the resurgence of new cases across the country, the government called on citizens to abide by health and safety measures such as proper social distancing.

The government, also, announced that starting Saturday, anyone traveling to Germany who comes from countries in the "high-risk" list will be required to take a mandatory COVID-19 test.

As of Friday, Germany has logged a total of 216,315 confirmed coronavirus cases and 9,254 deaths.

Asymptomatic cases gradually spiking in Italy

Italy's weekly new coronavirus cases are gradually rising due to more widespread testing and contact tracing, a recent report from the Italian Ministry of Health and Higher Health Institute.

The report also noted that the numbers in rising could be in part due to increasing infections among people who either have little to no symptoms but are carriers of COVID-19.

Authors of the report further pointed out that the slow but uptrending data have shown some warnings signs that should prompt people in the country to continue practicing proper health guidelines.

As of Friday, Italy has recorded a total of 249,756 confirmed coronavirus infections and 31,190 deaths. It used to be the epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak in Europe.

Spain topples U.K. in most COVID-19 cases in Europe

In what could be one of the biggest twists in Europe's COVID-19 battle, Spain, on Friday, surpassed the United Kingdom in the most number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the entire region.

While Britain has a total of 310,667 cases, Spain as of Friday has reached 314,362 infections, despite its previously good record in keeping down transmissions due to strict lockdowns.

Most of Spain's 1,895 new cases, on Friday, were found in Basque County. Aragon and Catalonia were also among the areas that registered a significant spike in daily infections.

The country's top epidemiologist, Fernando Simón, explained that the spike in new cases was driven by increased COVID-19 testing conducted by health officials and that Spain is still doing better now compared to the situation in March.

U.K. to add more countries in quarantine list

U.K. Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak said, on Friday, that the government will "not hesitate" to lengthen its travel quarantine list if necessary in ensuring the British public's health and safety.

The news came shortly after the country logged a total of 871 new confirmed COVID-19 cases and 98 new fatalities from the novel coronavirus.

As part of the efforts to curb travel-related transmissions in Britain, the government will require arrivals from Belgium, the Bahamas, and Andorra to undergo quarantine for two weeks.

Since the pandemic started, the U.K. has logged a total of 309,005 confirmed coronavirus cases and 46,511 deaths.
