Queen Elizabeth II and her family will welcome Prince Harry and Meghan Markle back into the fold should they change their minds about taking a back seat in royal affairs, according to royal biographer Ingrid Seward.

Senior royals supported the couple's decision at the time to withdraw from their roles and relocate to the U.S.

The Queen knew Harry and Markle were unhappy with their royal duties. However, she didn't really understand how serious the situation was, royal watchers say.

Despite Harry and Markle's exit, Seward said Queen Elizabeth will always keep the "door open" for her grandson if they change their minds. "She won't dwell on the exit. She is very pragmatic. She has left the door open for Harry, especially, Seward said.

Queen Elizabeth gave Harry and Markle 12 months to assess their decision. Even though the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are currently living in the U.S. reports say Her Majesty is "watching them like a hawk."

Meanwhile, some royal family members are "disappointed" with Harry and Markle's decision but Seward believes the Queen won't criticize them publicly.

"I think she's very loath to criticize anything he's doing. Privately, she might feel sad about it but she would never, ever comment on it - even probably to her family. She'll keep her feelings to herself," she said.

Seward's comments echo other reports. According to a US Weekly insider, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Harry's spoke in March to clear the air. Her Majesty told her grandson he was welcome back.

It was the first time Queen Elizabeth and Harry had seen each other in more than a month, according to the report. The meeting lasted four hours.

But another source revealed Queen Elizabeth wasn't happy with Harry and Markle's withdrawal because she and other family members missed them and wanted to spend time with them - especially baby Archie. However. Nevertheless, Her Majesty continues to respect their decision.
