The resignation late Sunday of White House counselor Kellyanne Conway - one of the architects of U.S. President Donald Trump's 2016 victory - is a "big blow" to his re-election with the polls 70 days away only.
"I will be transitioning from the White House at the end of this month. (Husband) George is also making changes," Conway said.
"We disagree about plenty but we are united on what matters most: the kids. Our four children are teens and 'tweens starting a new academic year, in middle school and high school, remotely from home for at least a few months. As millions of parents nationwide know, kids 'doing school from home' requires a level of attention and vigilance that is as unusual as these times."
White House chief-of-staff Mark Meadows on Monday said Conway's departure was a "big blow" for Trump's re-election team.
"It'll be a big hole, a big blow to us," said Meadows. "We certainly will be praying for her as she made this decision that some people will see...as a difficult decision. But I believe if you ask Kellyanne Conway, she believes she made the right decision for her family."
The decision to quit the Trump White House may have been prompted by Conway's daughter Claudia who Saturday declared war on her mother and father to compel them to become real parents once again.
Claudia's father, George Conway III, is among the fiercest Trump critics in the Republican Party. Because of their opposing views, Kellyanne and George Conway are called Washington's "Odd Couple."
Triggering Claudia's social media revolt was the news her mother would speak Wednesday at the virtual Republic National Convention.
Claudia, 15 and the eldest of four siblings, describes herself as a "leftist" and a liberal. She says her TikTok fan base is "leftist, A.C.A.B. (All Cops Are Bastards), anti-Trump, blm." She once called Trump "a horrible person."
Claudia surprised her parents Saturday with a tweet saying, "i'm devastated that my mother is actually speaking at the RNC. like DEVASTATED beyond compare."
She followed that up a minute later with another: "i'm officially pushing for emancipation. buckle up because this is probably going to be public one way or another, unfortunately. welcome to my life." She later shared the message with her TikTok followers in a video showing her shocked, speechless and mouth agape.
Another tweet four minutes later said: "my mother's job ruined my life to begin with. heartbreaking that she continues to go down that path after years of watching her children suffer. selfish. it's all about money and fame, ladies and gentlemen."
Then she blasted father George: "as for my dad, politically, we agree on absolutely nothing. we just both happen to have common sense when it comes to our current president. stop "stanning" him."
Following her parent's announcements Claudia ended her confrontation. She tweeted Sunday: "this is becoming way too much so i am taking a mental health break from social media. see y'all soon. thank you for the love and support. no hate to my parents please." She attached a red heart emoji.
