Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist season 2 is not slated to premiere until next year on NBC. The series hasn't started production at the moment due to the current global health crisis. But, the good news is that some of the recurring players from season 1 will appear in the show's sophomore year regularly.
According to a report from TVLine, Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist season 2 is promoting four recurring characters from the first installment, including Andrew Leeds and Alice Lee. Leed's plays Zoey's (Jane Levy) brother, David, while Lee plays the titular character's sister-in-law, Emily.
Both David and Emily were important in the show's freshman run. Their promotions signify the huge events that happened in the emotional season 1 finale. Zoey and her family will be dealing with the aftermath of Mitch's (Peter Gallagher) death, the family's patriarch.
In Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist season 2, David deals with losing his father while becoming a father for the first time. His wife, Emily, on the other hand, will balance the joy and pain of new motherhood while she copes with a newly grieving family.
In addition to Leeds and Lee, Michael Thomas Grant and Kapil Talwalkar were promoted as series regulars in the upcoming new season, as well. Grant and Talwalkar play Leif and Tobin, respectively. They are Zoey's work colleagues from Sprq Point.
In the second installment, Leif finds himself in a new position at Sprq Point, while Tobin continues using his humor and insults to mask a deep inner complexity. Now that these four recurring characters were promoted as series regulars, we could learn more about them moving forward.
Meanwhile, nothing is confirmed whether or not Lauren Graham is returning as Joan in Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist season 2. Previously, showrunner Austin Winsberg told TVLine that he's hoping that the actress will come back as the titular character's boss for a good amount of episodes.
But, the COVID-19 pandemic made things complicated since Graham's new gig on Disney+, the Mighty Ducks reboot, was initially set to wrap by mid-summer. Now, the shooting of both series might coincide, making the actress' filming schedule a little bit trickier.
As for what else we can expect in the new season, it will pick up the events that happened at the end of the first installment and will open new stories. Also, it will address further address the titular character's ability, in which she can hear the songs in other people's hearts.
Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist season 2 is set to a 2021 release date.
