Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are no longer working royals. So, they are not obliged to follow major protocols of the Palace. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are, now, using their time and energy on projects that they choose themselves.

But, before their royal exit, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle should abide by all the rules. According to a new report, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex allegedly wanted to secure “commercial deals” ahead of their departure, but Queen Elizabeth prohibited them.

“Some of the commercial deals I heard of were laughable,” Lady Colin Campbell, author of Meghan and Harry: The Real Story, told the Daily Star.

Lady Colin Campbell noted that Queen Elizabeth wouldn’t allow Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and other royal family members, to profit from the fact they were royalty. She said that Her Majesty would not give the Duke and Duchess of Sussex permission to “have their cake and eat it too.”

The author then claimed that Meghan Markle is the brain behind her and Prince Harry’s royal exit to work independently. “She is an operator,” she said.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shocked the world early this year when they announced that they would be stepping down from their senior royal roles. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared that they wish to focus on their family and charities while being “financially independent.”

On Sept. 2, Variety broke the news that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle struck a mega-deal with Netflix. The couple is set to produce films, documents, and children programming for the streaming giant.

The news didn't shock most people as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been heavily speculated to be joining the Hollywood scene for their new lives outside the Royal Family. But royal expert Marlene Koenig called the Duke of Sussex’s decision to move to the U.S. as “crazy.” She noted that the couple and their son Archie would have been more safe living in Frogmore Cottage than in Los Angeles.

Marlene Koenig said that the Sussexes "would have far more privacy living in Frogmore Cottage behind the fences at Windsor Great Park than they will ever have living in a gated community in LA."

The royal expert also pointed out that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are becoming celebrities than royals. Despite the backlash, the Duke of Sussex has insisted that he’s loving life in the U.S.
