Apple offers a loan pre-approval process for new and existing members of Apple's iPhone Upgrade Program who plan on buying the new iPhone 12.

Following the launch of the iPhone 12 family, Apple activates the loan pre-approval process for iPhone Upgrade Program members, both new and existing, so they could place pre-orders on Friday, October 16, along with an expected throng of early buyers. The pre-approval process can save valuable time which may spell the difference between getting a launch day handset or delayed delivery.

Like in past flagship iPhone launches, this year's pre-approval activation arrives only hours after the unveiling of the new iPhone 12 family at Apple's special virtual event dubbed "Hi, Speed." Members of the Upgrade Program can apply for pre-approval using the Apple Store app. The app functions as an online portal to the storefront of Apple and is updated with information about the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro. These models will reportedly be available on Oct. 16. A similar pre-approval process will be initiated for the iPhone 12 mini and the iPhone 12 Pro Max on Nov. 6.

On the main page of the Apple Store app or on a dedicated iPhone 12 page, users can tap on the "Get Ready." This activates a pop-up that contains information on pre-order availability as well as other pre-approval process information. You can also browse through a subsequent page showing the pricing and configuration of the iPhone, as well as different payment options, which include the iPhone Upgrade Program. Users can also see whether they are eligible for the program through a new link in the For You section of the app.

Meanwhile, iPhone Upgrade Program members can choose their preferred iPhone 12 model, confirm their carrier, and secure loan approval ahead of time. This reduces the steps required to buy the handset on the launch date. The streamlining of the procedure is the primary reason why Apple activated the pre-approval process for new and existing members of the iPhone Upgrade Program. Pricing under the program begins at $49.91 each month for the iPhone 12 Pro model and $39.50 per month for the standard iPhone 12. AppleCare+ is also included in the monthly price.

Members of the iPhone Upgrade Program have only until 9:00 p.m. Pacific Time on Oct. 15 to enroll in the pre-approval process initiated by Apple. On the other hand, iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro pre-orders begin at exactly 5:00 a.m. Pacific Time Friday, Oct. 16, with the first orders due to arrive on Oct. 23, also a Friday. Those who want to get an iPhone 12 mini or iPhone 12 Pro max may have to wait until November 6 to pre-order the devices.
