Fans may see soon see Rick and Morty back on the small screen on Rick and Morty Season 5. Co-creator Dan Harmon teased there would only be a short waiting game between the fourth and fifth seasons, which would drop sooner than expected.

In a talk on the PaleyFest virtual conversations, via Indiewire, Harmon revealed that despite the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the entertainment industry, it didn't significantly impact the much-loved animated series. Rick and Morty Season 5 is "fully on schedule."

It even benefited from the production setbacks, although the world has put to a full stop. Harmon said they're more on schedule today than they'd ever been.

He explained doing the animated series is easier than live-action productions, which are mostly halted this year due to the pandemic. The 47-year-old writer revealed that the non-office environment helped them focus on the show's "whole process."

As everyone is working remotely today, it helps them to be more consistent. Anyhow, Harmon cleared they haven't completed Cartoon Network's over 70 episodes order yet.

They are just writing as fast as they can in real-time. By now, they are "years ahead of the most recent episode's airdate."

In addition, Harmon teased some Rick and Morty Season 5 developments. Here, Morty will have a new female crush that will replace Jessica, whom he's obsessed with before, Screenrant noted.

Fans are about to see an episode where Morty will have a new relationship with an unnamed female character. It will be a "great little story," written by Harmon's friend and collaborator John Schrab. Harmon even hinted this episode is where his "Emmy is going to."

Morty already set the storyline where he would leave Jessica behind in the previous season's episode, "The Vat of Acid Episode." Viewers saw Morty used Rick's "save point invention" to help him create a perfect future, which included "falling in love with a girl."

However, Morty's supposed perfect future was lost after he forgot to save his adventure with a girl and even overwrote his last save point to the time before he met her. On the contrary, in Rick and Morty Season 5 animatic, it teased Marty would have an "evolving relationship with Jessica."

In the clip, Morty believes he and Rick are about to die. Their ship is about to crash on Earth, so Morty calls Jessica to say his final goodbye.

Amid the intense situation, they talk more honestly this time and agree to go on a date. So, fans have to wait and see what will officially happen next in Rick and Morty Season 5.
