Meghan Markle is still best friends with Canadian stylist Jessica Mulroney amid speculations that the latter was referring to the Duchess of Sussex's betrayal in her latest post on social media.
A source from Meghan's camp told Entertainment Tonight that Mulroney and the duchess are still "dear friends." Meghan Markle hasn't given up on her long-time pal, but the source admitted that she came out as "misguided and tone-deaf" after her controversy with Black social media influencer Sasha Exeter.
It comes as Mulroney shared a post on Instagram last Monday to thank the true friends who stuck with her and her husband, Ben Mulroney, despite her controversy. Jessica, however, also acknowledged the ones she thought were her friends. She said it has been such a gift to know that they didn't have her back.
Royal fans were quick to jump at the chance to comment on Jessica's post and alleged that she was talking about Meghan. However, those close to the Duchess of Sussex said that the two have been talking privately "all the time" since Jessica's mistake. The source also said that Meghan would never "let down" her friend for over 10 years.
In September, Jessica also wrote in a now-deleted Instagram post that she treats Meghan like family. She said that the Duchess of Sussex checks up on her every day but it's the tabloids who are creating "lies and hurtful storylines" about their friendship.
Jessica drew public outrage in June, at the height of the Black Lives Matter protests, after Exeter called her out for her white privilege. It started when the Black influencer posted a call to action that offended Jessica.
Exeter said that Jessica messaged her in private to explain herself but then also threatened her livelihood. The influencer shared everything in a video post that raked in millions of views.
Jessica has since apologized for her actions and decided to temporarily stop her activities on Instagram. She also quit her gigs on CTV and Good Morning America while Ben followed and quit his job as an entertainment anchor for nearly two decades.
The stylist said that they will use their downtime to "reflect, learn, and listen." After three months, Jessica slowly returned to social media.
While this was happening, rumors surfaced that Meghan Markle distanced herself from her best friend. A source said that the Duchess of Sussex has been considering cutting Jessica out of her life but the latest reports show that Meghan and Jessica are still communicating and are still good friends.
