Tesla deployed its Full Self-Driving offering in October and the beta release was only afforded to select users, which will be expanded possibly in the next few weeks. The plan, according to Elon Musk, is for more Tesla EV owners to experience autonomous driving and it's happening in early December.

In recent days, Musk responded to a query on Twitter and the company CEO confirmed that the FSD beta release will reach more users in the weeks to come. He hinted that FSD should become more widely available in the next two weeks, at the earliest.

"Probably going to a wider beta in two weeks," the Tesla boss said on Twitter, and as reported by IT News.

His latest statement is in line with the earlier announcement that the FSD beta will be ready for a wider deployment before the end of 2020. Musk has expressed confidence that Tesla's autonomous driving feature will become more intelligent as more users supply the data needed for the feature to further improve.

There was no clear indication on how the upcoming beta release will play out but it can be assumed that Tesla will follow the same model in October. For the initial rollout, only drivers deemed as expert and cautious were given access to the FSD so the same lot will likely be added to the expanded release.

It's possible too that the FSD beta will reach Canada in December, which was promised by Musk in the past weeks. And it should be expected that Tesla will continue to advise users that when testing the self-driving features, drivers must always stay alert.

Tesla's advisory also includes the warning that something could go wrong with FSD while in the middle of the road. That is why users should be ready to take back control of the vehicle in such a situation.

The threat of accidents while testing FSD is making the wider beta release both "exciting and terrifying," according to Electrek. For one, it is welcome that more users can now access the feature after years of delay.

However, it is scary, at the same time, that the software is far from perfect. Even Tesla admitted that FSD is still a work in progress and autonomous driving will not be fully realized until a few more years. By the automaker's calculations, it will take billions of mileages for the system to get smarter so being overly cautious while taking the feature for a spin is a must.

To be clear, Autopilot is not yet a reality, and staying alert while testing out Tesla's self-driving is key to mitigate the likelihood of accidents.
