Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have secured their future with their multi-million Netflix and Spotify deals, but the move has given the pair more access to consume the "media oxygen" meant for Kate Middleton, Prince William and the rest of the royal family.

According to royal commentator Daniela Elser, Meghan and Harry dominated the popularity scale in 2020 after Twitter named the Duke and Duchess of Sussex the most talked-about royal on the platform. Elser believes that Harry and Meghan will continue to dominate the popularity scale in the years to come because of their various media deals.

While this might look great for the Sussexes, the royal expert said that it could become a problem for William and Kate, who are the future of the monarchy. Elser said that the British royal family thrives because of "troves of public and media interest."

If Meghan and Harry are going to be more interesting, then what will happen to William and Kate? If the Cambridges fail to grab the attention of the public, then what will be its impact on their charities, advocacies, and philanthropy?

Elser said that this problem of waning popularity would fall on the Cambridges to solve. Other royal experts believe that the "monarchy might not survive" once Queen Elizabeth dies. Historian Dan Snow said that the next generations after the Queen would have a "tough job" because they will have to live up to her massive popularity.

However, another historian, Greg Jenner, said that William and Kate are doing an excellent job as the younger, more modern faces of British royalty. He believes that the British public will support the couple through the decades, especially if they keep proving that they are "well-suited to the task."

Royal author Clive Irving, on the other hand, said that the collapse of the monarchy might happen under Prince Charles and not his son. The expert believes that the Prince of Wales is "falling far short of the standard set by his mother and grandfather."

It comes as polls show that Britain's future generation does not think it's relevant to still continue the monarchy. Many citizens still feel that the royal family does not deserve public funds to support their lifestyle.

Meanwhile, Harry and Meghan's team said that the couple would be more visible in 2021 when they put their new foundation, Archewell, into high gear, aside from their Netflix and Spotify deal. However, critics of the Sussex pair said that the British people are no longer curious about the couple as they have shifted their focus to the U.S.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry eclipsed Prince William and Kate Middleton on Twitter's popularity scale for 2020.
